Auroville: Inner Means rather than Outer Means

Just after having posted my renewed call for help (see my previous post) regarding Repos, an especially illuminating message that the Mother gave for Auroville came back into my consciousness; I immediately looked it up in the big compilation I made years ago of all that she had said about Auroville, and I want to share now with you this message, dated August 3, 1968, as it seems to me particularly appropriate, both for the cause of the problem here and for the kind of inner action we are once again attempting to realize together:

“For thousands of years we have been developing outer means, outer instruments, outer techniques for living – and in the end those means and techniques are crushing us. The sign of a new humanity is a reversal of outlook and the understanding that inner means, inner knowledge and inner techniques can change the world and master it without crushing it.
Auroville is the place where this new way of living is being worked out, it is a center of accelerated evolution where man must begin to change his world by means of the power of the inner spirit.”

Thanks Bhaga, very nice of you to share it with everyone. So, masterign the inner means is the way to go ? Or is it a balance between inner and outer means that we have to find.

My own understanding of this message is that the inner means, if we take the trouble to focus first on developing them, will gradually render the usual outer means not necessary any more, or allow us to minimize and soften their use, when they remain necessary at all.
      What do you think?

Soften their use or may be help us find proper use of known outer means. I see many outer means being used in improper ways, eventually leading to negative results. We have too many tools (outer means) and not enough understanding.

Reblogged this on Living Well and commented:

    we need to look inward
to determine the source of disconnect, discontent and anything negative

and not focus externally to find happiness and inner calm or balance
