My Work for Auroville Since 1972

A non-Aurovilian spiritual seeker from the US, who came to South India several times during the last few of the eighteen years I spent at Repos (then the main Beach Community of Auroville), around 2014, and who became a friend then, is still keeping in touch through email and this Research Blog of mine, as we have in common many spiritual interests.  But a recent comment by him made me realize suddenly that I had somehow left him ignorant of what my work for Auroville actually was, and this, at a time when it seemed pretty much like I was just looking after Repos as a whole and its Guest facilities in particular. When that whole era came to an end because of the coastal erosion that brutally wiped out the place, what work remained for me to do for Auroville after that must have been a rather confusing question indeed for those who didn’t know better!

As quite a few of my visitors here know me only through this Blog, they could very well be as ignorant, or at least not have a clear idea at all either, of what has been my work for Auroville, and where, since joining in 1972. To remedy this, I am posting a copy of my reply to that friend, as a cheerful piece of information for all, that will later be permanently available as an added Page, for it will help people figure out which Auroville place I am talking about in this or that Post, why, and in which area it is located:

Dear friend,

You are asking me:
“So are you working for Auroville again? Volunteering at a library or research? ”

My surprised answer is:

But I never stopped working for Auroville!…  😀
There is a misunderstanding somewhere, it would seem, in your image of me and my work for AV, that needs clarifying… Here goes:

From my arrival in 1972 as a young certified teacher in the Classics (yes, French, Latin and Greek Literature!…), I did much appreciated work teaching French as a second language at the various schools starting to exist, and also helping build Matrimandir, while already doing a lot of important evolutive research work on my own, unofficially, because I couldn’t help but doing it, for my own evolution first of all.
But in 1984 I was led to become very officially the founder and head researcher of the ‘Laboratory of Evolution – Centre for Human Unity’ (LOE-CHU), still located for the time being at Bharat Nivas, just next to the small official Indian Post-office also located there.
The ever richer Specialized Library that the LOE-CHU has now, was actually started and developed by me from 1984 on, and run entirely by me for the first several years. But it was so time-consuming that the Research aspect of my work was hindered, so it is with relief that I finally entrusted our Library to another then (and ever) young Aurovilian lady who proposed herself for that work in 1990, and still does it with a small team of other Aurovilians, while a few other persons joined me also for the Research aspect.
I still attend to the Library work one afternoon a week, although by now all my other work is done at ‘Luminosity’ (in my little office downstairs or even my home upstairs) as there is no room left in our small building at Bharat Nivas: the Research and all the work it entails has to happen elsewhere – but at least with the big advantage of having all this ever growing amount of documentation available right in our LOE-CHU Library, which many other Aurovilians and Guests cherish too.
After twenty years of unexpectedly but increasingly having experiences of an awakening Cellular Consciousness, which I kept carefully secret, in 1996 the secret accidentally was revealed. The workshops about that cutting edge specific topic and the Integral Yoga in general, that I was asked to give in Auroville from 1998 on (from 2001 to 2007, also invited all over the world) have never stopped: even while I was still at Repos (and doing a lot of other work there), and later more inland, at Djaïma, for two years, people would keep coming to me for my Integral Yoga or Cellular Consciousness workshops – and now all the more of course, as I live more in the Centre, at Luminosity. But I don’t want to travel any longer, it is too tiring.
The blog I am writing since 2011 is only an addition to that, one more expression of the experiential as well as theoretical Evolutive Research that is going on in me for so many years, literally at every single moment of my life and at all levels of my being: the Integral Yoga says ‘All life is Yoga’, and for evolutive purposes it cannot but be that way…!
So I would never stop that evolutive work and this research I love doing about it. I am ever so grateful to the Divine that it has become since 1984 my official work for Auroville, providing me with a maintenance for my basic needs, and so enabling me not to need any other outer work than what is anyway my true passion, my life’s mission to both live and document.
And that Research includes of course as well whatever evolutive progress I notice anywhere else, in Auroville itself or in other parts of the world…. for example in the USA: this is how thanks to miraculous funding I visited twice (in 1991 and 2001) both the Edgar Cayce Foundation (A.R.E.) and the Monroe Institute (TMI), that I had first discovered the existence and work of much earlier, through my own Research (see some of my blog-posts about that, under the Cayce and Monroe respective Categories liste in the right margin).
Hoping that all confusion about my work for Auroville is now cleared for good,

Bhaga 🙂

A Grateful Farewell To You, Dear Sharanam

A dear Aurovilian friend of mine just passed away a few days ago, a lady too, and my age, but from Spain. This is what I sent to be published this week in our Auroville internal weekly newsletter, under this title:

Oh Sharanam, dear Sharanam, what a shock, this sudden departure of yours!… You, the gentle but daring soul who had been the first to join me at the newborn Laboratory of Evolution, in 1985 already, to start together this Raw Food Kitchen that has been, to my knowledge, the first experimental Kitchen in Auroville for the food of the Future! You, the quiet and unassuming biologist and chemist who did this work with also all your heart, you had a few years later to finally stop doing it – although our little ‘Raw Kitchen’ had become rather successful – because of the quarreling atmosphere the next persons who joined the LOE brought in, that was making you sick… Not only was it the end of the ‘Raw Kitchen’, but I lost in that way the daily pleasure of working with you, this rare person capable of true, egoless collaboration with someone else. Even after you left we kept in touch over the years, and you kept appreciating my research work, even more so since in 2011 I started my blog: you followed it with a kind of awe that as always expressed your genuine, amazing humility and childlike sense of wonderment. The name that you had chosen for yourself, which means ‘Refuge’, I among others can attest was fully deserved: I had again the occasion to experience that fact a year ago when the deterioration of my health was found to be caused by a dangerous illness, news that brought you instantly to Djaima at my bedside as soon as I called you for help. And help me you did in many incredible ways along the following months, while by applying the inspired advice of last century’s extraordinary trance-seer in the USA, Edgar Cayce, I managed to reverse the course of the disease… It all became possible only thanks to your faithful and loving daily supply of the unusual diet and other means of treatment he had recommended for such cases. Both you, with your scientific background as a pharmacist, and I as a researcher, plus some others in Auroville, had all independently studied for many years Edgar Cayce’s ‘Readings’ and had already tested his advice with success, so we knew that the treatment he had outlined would definitely help – and it did, to our shared great joy. When later on I was able again to take care of myself on my own, I had to force you to accept my reimbursement of the many expenses you had also incurred for me without hesitation, although you were as short of personal funds for your own life as I was… And just recently we had rejoiced together again when finding a new, good and reliable source of certain food items both of our bodies needed… a source we shared the use of without even knowing it at first: a very special Tamil woman, Latha, who has taken up that job in complete seriousness and dedication about six months ago, and has soon become so appreciative of you, gentle and kind Sharanam, that she was already very worried when she alerted me yesterday: not well for fifteen days, you had been taken to that ICU in Pondy!… Seeing my alarm, she promised to phone me whatever news about you she could gather from your neighbors in Dana. I wished I was myself well enough to attend to you in Pondy if needed, but this morning (Friday the 2nd) on the phone Latha was sobbing, telling me the terrible, stunning news, and then there was nothing more we could do but sob together. When later I opened my email, the usual mass bulletin announcement only confirmed it, alas, dearest Sharanam: you were gone… except that I kept seeing your face smiling as if to comfort me… During her lunch-time break Latha took me along to the Farewell place and together we honored your body with flowers… I’m already missing you so much, and so do your other friends too, I’m sure… Please, after an enjoyable rest in the Light, do come back soon with a good new body, but the same so generous, cheerful and compassionate heart!

Scary Predictions Are Only Warnings: Edgar Cayce and Dannion Brinkley

Among many others, Edgar Cayce and Dannion Brinkley, for example, are people who have made or received predictions, some of them rather scary, about the near future of the Earth. Now they are criticized and called unreliable prophets just because some of the really dire events never came to pass. Are they truly to be blamed for that, or on the contrary, profusely thanked?…

I’ll start with a few Nostradamus-like (!) verses of my own to summarize the very important point I am trying to make through this post, for this point really needs to be more widely understood:

After all, what are Predictions?

They are merely Impressions

– Among all Probabilities

That could become Realities –

Of the one to be our Future

IF the course of our Adventure,

Otherwise due infallibly,

Is not changed rather rapidly

By our own choice. They are warnings

For us to make new beginnings

In quite another direction

So that, by this simple action,

We void the future predicted

For the better one selected!

What to make then of those many negative predictions that might scare the hell out of us, individually or collectively, but which nevertheless most of us seem to dutifully expect?

Well, such predictions not only are not infallible, but they are actually meant not to come true!… :

As the Future, contrary to what most of us believe, is not carved in stone, in reality such dire predictions are mere warnings of what our Future will be if we don’t change the course of our life, by modifying for example our inner attitude towards it, or the beliefs we presently hold, or the plans we have made, or the decisions we intend to make.

The predictions I am speaking of aren’t those calculated statistically through computers, but those made by someone’s consciousness going up high enough to see, of the Vast Eternal Present visible from up there, more than just one moment at a time like we do usually from down here. From that higher perspective, seeing the trajectory you are on since some time, one can see easily, beyond the present moment, where you will land later on, if nothing happens that changes your trajectory or modifies your speed.

If for example you yourself are in a plane flying above a road crossing, you will be able to see in advance that two cars, coming from different directions but not visible to each other, will collide soon at that crossroad if neither of the drivers slows down or changes his/her current direction.

Alarmed, for the sake of their safety you may quickly contact the drivers if you can, and tell them of the impending danger

If then at least one of them takes heed of the warning and makes in time the needed change, that car will slow down or stop, or take a different route, and the two cars will actually never meet: the accident will be avoided, and so the prediction will not come true. But then be ready for the drivers to tell you later on that your warning was pure nonsense and imagination, as they never saw any other car at that crossing, and now think you invented the whole thing just for a bad joke!…

This is, again, what has happened to many who predicted events, like the world-famous American trance-seer from last century, Edgar Cayce, or simply reported events that others predicted to them would happen, like well-known NDEr Dannion Brinkley.

Edgar Cayce did explain, and so did the thirteen Beings of Light who showed visions to Dannion, that the Future depends also on our own choices in the meantime, and dire predictions can very much be changed – actually, are meant to be voided:

“Through telepathy, I could hear a Being say, “If you follow what you have been taught & keep living the same way you have lived the last 30 years, all of this will surely be upon you. If you change, you can avoid the coming war.” Scenes from a horrible world war accompanied this message. As the visions appeared on the screen, the Being told me that the years 1994 through 1996 were critical ones in determining whether this war would break out. “If you follow this dogma, the world by the year 2004 will not be the same one you now know,” said the Being. “But it (this future) can still be changed & you can help change it.”

What, in the vast realm of Probabilities, is highly probable today, still isn’t bound at all to really happen in the Future, which just changes all the time according to the decisions taken by all at each moment. As Yoda would say in his own so particular way of speaking:

Still, caught in everyone else’s usual expectation that a prediction must come true otherwise the author of the prediction is discredited, both the followers of Edgar Cayce and Dannion Brinkley himself have been separately keeping a record of the predictions that have already come true, from the overall list they made; and they seem to be almost eager that the predictions not yet realized, even if they are terrible disasters, do come true some day, so that it adds to the credibility of the whole list they have been given!…

Surprising as it seems, I haven’t seen or heard yet any instance when the Edgar Cayce Foundation people, or Dannion, simply explained clearly to others that, luckily for all of us, the Future isn’t cast in stone. In the case of the previously foreseen disasters, not only we should all be rather happy that such events didn’t come to pass yet, but we should also hope/pray that they never come to pass at all… which would simply indicate the excellent news that, by our intervening better choices and decisions, we have voided those dire predictions and they aren’t hanging over our heads like ‘swords of Damocles’ any longer!

Even the 2012 so-called ‘End of the World’ predictions, although that date is now long past, are still troubling a lot of people, who in their fixation on such a dire prospect, simply postpone and postpone again endlessly the date of the supposed End of the World, keeping themselves in the constant anxiety of that so dreaded supposed Future.

But why don’t they see at last that its not coming to pass on the predicted date(s) might well mean that instead, this dreaded Future has been in the meantime averted because we human beings – or at least, as Dannion does say, a sufficient proportion of us – have managed to take a new, better direction, and so Humanity as a whole is now on that new road as well… Perhaps this fantastic change was all the result that the predictions themselves were meant to have!…

Gregg Braden in one of his great books, ‘The Isaie Effect’, explains exactly the same thing, taking his title from the ancient Biblical prophet Isaie, to whom it all happened already long ago: after Isaie finally obeyed the Lord and reluctantly did warn the people in Niniveh that the Lord was going to punish them for their terrible sins, the Niniveh people repented, and changed their ways, and so were saved: the Lord withdrew his punishment. But then, when nothing actually happened, the people turned against Isaie and ridiculed him for being a false prophet!!! Poor Isaie and other messengers of the Future, caught in this ‘Catch 22’ kind of situation!…

Gregg Braden underlines also the absolutely fascinating fact that, in this ‘Bible Code’ discovered only some years ago, which has revealed incredibly precise predictions hidden in the Bible, often for the main disastrous events foretold one can read also, along with them, the question “Will you change that?…”, as if we were actually invited to void those very predictions by our wiser actions…

How much solicitude in such an invitation, how much hope on the part of those who try to warn us… How much hope that we will indeed change, mend our ways, and so reach a completely different, happier Future! What is happening on Earth is being watched in its gradual unfolding with so much hopeful expectation from all those other beings, in this dimension and many others, who are lovingly playing their roles as Helpers at our every step…

Even many NDEs turn out to have been very precious warnings for the individuals to whom they happened, who often, like in the case of Dannion Brinkley himself, truly needed urgently to take stock of their life till then, and thanks to their NDE decided to make the real inner changes necessary, and put their life on an altogether better course.

So whatever mistakes we may have already done in our past, it is possible for all of us, at any moment of our existence here, to wake up and start changing our ways. Each of us has free will, and inner guidance from the Divine Presence within each of us.

Indeed, we are dearly loved…

Jesus as seen by Edgar Cayce, at the Last Supper

Having just finished and put up my previous post,  at the end of which I gave a link to my much older post, What did Jesus look like?, without really knowing why I googled “Edgar Cayce’s physical description of Jesus’, and guess what?… Lo and behold, here was a passage from Edgar Cayce I had read before in his books long ago but forgotten about when writing that old post!… It was very nicely quoted in ‘Soul India’ ( so I copied it down below for it to be added at last to the rest of my research work; the last text in ‘Soul India’s article was already included in my own post, but it is nice to have it again here, it is so magnificent…! The text in the middle isn’t a physical description, but quite an important document too, I kept it as well.

Thank you,’Soul India’!

The Lord’s Supper

This Psychic Reading was given by Edgar Cayce at the end of check-physical reading [1315-3], this 14th day of June, 1932, after suggestion was given three times for EC to wake up.
Present: Edgar Cayce; Gertrude Cayce, Conductor; Gladys Davis, Steno. Mildred Davis and Hugh Lynn Cayce.  Time: 11:30 A. M

1.EC: The Lord’s Supper – here with the Master – see what they had for supper – boiled fish, rice, with leeks, wine, and loaf. One of the pitchers in which it was served was broken – the handle was broken, as was the lip to same.

2.The whole robe of the Master was not white, but pearl gray – all combined into one – the gift of Nicodemus to the Lord.

3.The better looking of the twelve, of course, was Judas, while the younger was John – oval face, dark hair, smooth face – only one with the short hair. Peter, the rough and ready – always that of very short beard, rough, and not altogether clean; while Andrew’s is just the opposite – very sparse, but inclined to be long more on the side and under the chin, long on the upper lip – his robe was always near gray or black, while his clouts or breeches were striped; while those of Philip and Bartholomew were red and brown.

4.The Master’s hair is ‘most red, inclined to be curly in portions, yet not feminine or weak, STRONG, with heavy piercing eyes that are blue or steel-gray.

5.His weight would be at least a hundred and seventy pounds. Long tapering fingers, nails well kept. Long nail, though, on the left little finger.

6.Merry – even in the hour of trial. Joke – even in the moment of betrayal.

7.The sack is empty. Judas departs.

8.The last is given of the wine and loaf, with which He gives the emblems that should be so dear to every follower of Him. Lays aside His robe, which is all of one piece – girds the towel about His waist, which is dressed with linen that is blue and white. Rolls back the folds, kneels first before John, James, then to Peter-who refuses.

9.Then the dissertation as to ‘He that would be the greatest would be servant of all.’

10.The basin is taken as without handle, and is made of wood. The water is from the gherkins [gourds], that are in the wide-mouth Shibboleths [streams? Judges 12:6], that stand in the house of John’s father, Zebedee.

11.And now comes “It is finished.”

12.They sing the ninety-first Psalm – “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in Him will I trust.”

13.He is the musician as well, for He uses the harp.

14.They leave for the garden.

1.6/14/32 At the end of physical reading 1315-3, for Mrs. [1315] who had phoned for an emergency reading that morning after a sleepless night due to pain, 5749-1

on The Last Supper was volunteered – after the suggestion was given three times for Edgar Cayce to wake up.

4.12/25/24 The Lighthouse (Oceana High School, Oceana, Va.) article,

In 1810, some workmen while excavating the ancient city of Amiternum (now Aquilia), in the Kingdom of Naple, found an antique marble vase in which lay concealed a copper plate bearing on the obverse side a long inscription in Hebrew tongue. This, when translated, proved to be the death warrant of Jesus Christ.

It has been faithfully transcribed and reads as follows:

In the year of seventeen of the Emperor Tiberius Caesar, and the 27th day of March, the city of holy Jerusalem – Annas and Caiaphas being priests, sacrificators of the people of God – Pontius Pilate, Governor of Lower Galilee, sitting in the presidential chair of the praetory, condemns Jesus of Nazareth to die on the cross between two thieves, the great and notorious evidence of the people saying:

1. Jesus is a seducer. 2. He is seditious. 3. He is the enemy of law. 4. He calls himself falsely the son of God. 5. He calls himself falsely the King of Israel. 6. He entered into the temple, followed by a multitude, bearing palm branches in their hands. Orders the first centurion, Tuiluis Cornelius, to lead him to the place of execution. Forbids any person whomsoever, either poor or rich, to oppose the death of Jesus Christ.

The witnesses who signed the condemnation of Jesus are:

1. Daniel Robani, a Pharisee. 2. Joannus Robani. 3. Raphael Robani. 4. Capet, a citizen.

Jesus shall go out the city of Jerusalem by the gate of Struenus.

5. See Source File Key #5749 for 5/38 article appearing in

“The Psychic News Clip Letter,” and 6/38 booklet by Hugh Lynn Cayce,

Few people are aware, that there is in existence today, in the Archives in Rome, a description of Christ. It is contained in a report written nearly two thousand years ago, by a Roman, Publius Lentulus, to his Emperor, Tiberias. It reads:

“There has appeared in Palestine a man who is still living and whose power is extraordinary. He has the title given him of Great Prophet, his disciples call him

‘Son of God’. He raises the dead and heals all sorts of diseases.”He is a tall, well proportioned man, and there is an air of severity in his countenance which at once attracts the love and reverence of those who see him. His hair is the colour of new wine from the roots to the ears, and thence to the shoulders it is curled and falls down to the lowest part of them. Upon the forehead, it parts in two after the manner of Nazarenes.

“His forehead is flat and fair, his face without blemish or defect, and adorned with a graceful expression. His nose and mouth are very well proportioned, his beard is thick and the colour of his hair. His eyes are grey and extremely lively.

“In his reproofs, he is terrible, but in his exhortations and instructions, amiable and courteous. There is something wonderfully charming in this face with a mixture of gravity. He is never seen to laugh, but has been observed to weep. He is very straight in stature, his hands large and spreading, his arms are very beautiful. “He talks little, but with a great quality and is the handsomest man in the world.”

Tekos ‘Kin’ School in Russia, and the ‘Anastasia Movement’ Worldwide

Looking up on the ‘THRIVE’ website the new Blog Post by Foster Gamble, dedicated this time to Education, and reading the Comments left by numerous enthusiastic people, I discovered today many interesting names of persons and places involved in what I would call ‘New Education’.

One video caught my eye: the one about the ‘Kin’ School of Tekos, in Russia. I liked it so much I decided to post it here on my blog, so you will find it down below; but then it led me to the discovery of the whole ‘Anastasia Movement’ behind it, which I found very interesting as well… so you’ll get an article about that too, written some time ago already by Scotia Scot (my thanks to her for reproducing her article: it was so good I couldn’t hope to write anything better; she even includes, as you will see, a quote I know very well by Edgar Cayce!). Here you go:

Call of The Ringing Cedars

“On Russia’s religious development will come the greater hope of the world.”
–Edgar Cayce
Sitting in the Sacramento Greyhound Bus Station, flipping through the Bay Area Alternative Weekly, I turned the page to see a wild woman of the woods, quite the stunning image, centered in an advertisement for The Ringing Cedars of Russia, a series of books. The series, it said, had sold over ten million copies in Russia alone, and was inspiring a massive movement in earth consciousness there. Russians are leaving the cities to live in garden communities, to raise their children in Nature. Five of the books had been translated in to English, and I was being invited to discover the story that was inspiring millions of people to co-create a “Paradise on Earth.”

I had arrived in Sacramento having just finished a month of mineral springs, meditation, and mountain meanderings in Mount Shasta. After mixing cob that summer in the gardens of Northern California, and next headed to a Hawaii Permaculture Farm for a lush and lively winter, The Ringing Cedars Series had this Nature Boy’s full attention. I ordered a copy of Anastasia, the first book in the collection, and the name of the beautiful Forest Lady who had caught my eye.

Vladimir Megre, a Siberian entrepreneur, is the author of The Ringing Cedars Series. The story begins with Vladimir on a commercial trade run through some remote communities of Siberia. He starts to build an interest in the economic value of the Siberian cedar, and then pursues reports of a “ringing cedar,” an anomalous tree that stores cosmic energies and, after many hundreds of years, begins to ring. On his journey, Vladimir meets Anastasia, a young woman who has grown up in the Siberian wilderness. She brings Vladimir back to her forest glade and shares her advice with him regarding the raising of children, living a natural lifestyle, and illuminating the spirit of Creation that rests within every person.

For Vladimir, living a few days in Anastasia’s world is full of shocking and mystifying experiences. Humbled by the simple accommodations of a grass-lined dugout and not even a fire, Vladimir witnesses the abilities of Anastasia’s visionary “Ray,” as well as her astonishing somersaults, swings, and soaring through the forest canopy. Both the wild animals and the plants in her domain are seemingly tamed, observes Vladimir, as he watches the squirrels bring her food, the cedars shower her in pollen, and witnesses a show of acrobatics with the denizen bear!

As Vladimir’s critical interest in these phenomena grow, Anastasia stresses the importance of the wisdom she offers, offering the vision of an emerging culture re-united with Nature. Letting the children grow up in orchards and gardens full of our love is the key to reclaiming humanity’s Creator role on earth, and this new Age of Co-Creation will be realized when we empower our dreams with the purity of thought that comes from living a natural life.

This is the story of The Ringing Cedars. Whether one accepts it as fact or fiction, it is playing a massive role in transforming the culture of Russia, and in various communities around the world.

Dachniks is a term for the cottage-gardeners of Russia, and we become very familiar with their story in reading Anastasia. Leonid Sharashkin, editor of The Ringing Cedars Series’ English editions and a doctoral student in Agroforestry, is able to share with us the massive impacts of this gardening movement in the larger context of Russia’s agricultural economy:

“Currently, with 35 million families (70% of Russia’s population) working 8 million [hectares] of land and producing more than 40% of Russia’s agricultural output, this is in all likelihood the most extensive microscale food production practice in any industrially developed nation.

“According to official statistics, in 1999 more than 35 million families (105 million people, or 71% of country’s population) owned a dacha or a subsidiary plot and were cultivating it… The 35 million plots of these families occupy more than 8 million hectares and provide 92% of Russia’s harvest of potatoes, 77% of its vegetables, 87% of berries and fruits, 59.4% of meat, and 49.2% of milk.”

“When you look at the contribution of gardening to the national economy as a whole, it’s even more stunning,” Sharashkin said. “In 2004, gardeners’ output amounted to 51% (by value) of the total agricultural output of the Russian Federation. This represents 384 billion rubles (approx. US$14 billion!!!), or 2.3% of Russia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). This is greater, for example, than the contribution of the whole of electric power generation industry (317 bn rubles), significantly greater than all of forestry, wood-processing and pulp and paper industry (180 bn), significantly greater than the coal (54 bn), natural gas (63 bn) and oil refining (88 bn) industries taken together. The share of food gardening in national agriculture has increased from 32% in 1992 to over 50% by 2000.”

“Essentially, what Russian gardeners do,” he concludes, “is demonstrate that gardeners can feed the world – and you do not need any GMOs, industrial farms, or any other technological gimmicks to guarantee everybody’s got enough food to eat. Bear in mind that Russia only has 110 days of growing season per year – so in the US, for example, gardeners’ output could be substantially greater. Today, however, the area taken up by lawns in the US is two times greater than that of Russia’s gardens – and it produces nothing but a multi-billion-dollar lawn care industry.”

Though the dacha movement has its roots in Russia’s traditional peasant culture (and more recently in post-WW2 programs to boost agricultural production) the Ringing Cedars movement has had its own major contributions since the release of the books in 1996. A strong focus on planting trees and using non-timber tree products, permaculture principles like “no-dig” gardens, and fulfilling a spiritual relationship with the land are some of the new characteristics among the dachniks who have been inspired by Anastasia.

As well, the readers of Anastasia are also at the heart of a growing Russian eco-village movement. These are subsistence communities made up of multiple family estates, normally called “Kin’s Domains,” a term that appears in the books. Along with each family’s estate of between one and three hectares, these eco-villages may include community areas with a school, clinic, theatre, and festival grounds. Before the release of the Ringing Cedars books, Russia was without an eco-village movement; but in 2004, a conference of readers had attendants representing more than 150 eco-villages!

The spiritual affinity within the communities of the Ringing Cedars movement lies in their vision of re-establishing “Motherland,” an eco-culture where every person is fulfilling their role as a Divine Co-Creator. As readers go deeper into the series, Anastasia begins to reveal the path back to the state of a Creator Being, teaching about “The Science of Imagery,” of empowering our creative ability with pure thought, feelings, and a loving relationship with Nature. She also shares her stories about the history of the People of Earth, of the priests who led us into the Occult Age that is just now ending, and of the Beauty that was found in the gardens and rituals of an ancient Vedic race.

Anastasia also gives advice regarding the sowing of seeds, raising bees, and ideas for setting up a permaculture-style estate. Along with accounts of kombucha UFOs, ancestral dolmens (ancient burial chambers), and supernatural orbs, The Ringing Cedars Series contains a diverse array of paranormal tales, practical sustainability, poetic scripture, and cultural vision. For me, the books are a captivating read of personal, cultural, and spiritual significance.

Across Russia, “Garden Plot Acts” legislation is increasingly coming into effect, entitling each Russian citizen to a piece of land free from taxation and inheritable though the family line. I read this message of sovereign title to land for the purpose of spiritual fulfillment as a hopeful tiding of humanity’s future here on the planet. As I wander about visiting homesteads, farms, communities, and seeking the stories to inspire a natural and spiritual life, I have discovered Anastasia. It is one of those inspiring stories, and there are many blessings for us all on the path of Inspired Co-Creation.

What Sri Aurobindo may have told John Oldman, ‘The Man from Earth’

So, as I said in my previous post with considerable satisfaction, the Myth is still extremely alive and well, and this film, ‘The Man from Earth’, has by now a whole ‘cult-following’, just like ‘Highlander’ had for long, about thirty years ago (I still have my cherished three main films with Christophe(r) Lambert, and I lovingly play my favorite ones, the first and the last, from time to time…), another previous very interesting take on the same, so fascinating Myth, of an Undying Man…

But… is it only a Myth?…

Sri Aurobindo’s spiritual but also evolutive perspective on terrestrial life as a whole presented us as early as 1914 with the astonishing news that yes, such a great human potential does exist, meant to become true at some point as terrestrial evolution goes on towards what he called ‘The Life Divine’, the title of his most famous book.

And it could very well be that in the far Past of the Earth, in the beginnings that are alluded to in the various Eden Myths, some Earthly Paradise may have at first existed, in some area of the Earth, in which everything was still much closer than it is now to the Heavenly Paradise our spirits are likely to re-enter after death, or during a Near Death Experience, an NDE. The Mother herself had the vague, but very vivid memory of having lived, physically, in a special place like that, at an extremely early time, a time when everything there was automatically and naturally harmonious… Joyful, peaceful and harmonious. Darwin’s theories aren’t as correct or complete as most people believe them to be.

JRR Tolkien too, in his own way, had the inner certainty that such a place must have really existed a long, long time ago, and in his first writings, later published posthumously as ‘The Silmarillion’, it is what translated itself in the form of the Blessed Realm of Valinor, where lived the immortal Valar, emanated by Eru, the One Supreme Being; and the idea of this idyllic place translated itself also in the coming into existence in Middle-earth at first of the Eldar or Elves, the ‘First-Born’ of Eru’s Children, whom the Valar had lovingly prepared Arda, the Earth, for. The Eldar were beautiful, strong, ever young and healthy, and wouldn’t die unless killed in battle. They spontaneously lived in harmony with the Nature around them. A number of them accepted the Valar’s invitation to go live with them in the safety of Valinor. But as evolution went on, with the destructive actions of Melkor, the renegade powerful Vala later called Morgoth, life even in Valinor was diminished and Middle-earth became a terrible battle-ground. The magnificent wonder that the World had been in its youth faded more and more. When the Valar finally intervened and removed Morgoth permanently from Middle-earth, the  problem was still not solved: his ambitious and cruel captain Sauron soon came out of hiding and took his place, nearly forcing everyone into submission through the evil power of the One Ring he had forged for himself. At the end of the Third Age, after the victory over Sauron that finally ended the War of the Ring, the time had come for the Elves to pass on to their long-time friends and allies the Mortal Men, the ‘Second Born’, the responsibility for leading on in Middle-earth the continuing evolution of Arda. The Elves themselves , being immortal, retreated then back into Valinor, the far away Blessed Realm in the West, where the Valar would welcome them again in their protected blissful existence. This is what we see happening at the end of ‘The Lord of the Rings’, when Galadriel, Elrond and Gandalf take the Elven ship waiting for them at the Grey Havens, and their dear small but heroic friends the hobbits Bilbo and Frodo go with them for a well-deserved long period of Healing.

Thousands of years later, our own times now mark the end of the period which started then, when Men, that is, the Mental Power, took the lead of Evolution upon Earth. We are in the transitional period that will bring us further on, beyond the Mental Power, into the Supramental Era when many of the Elven qualities and powers will re-emerge in our nature, as it again grows closer to the Divine Nature we all have secretly as the very core of our Being.

That means Physical Immortality too will again become a distinct Possibility.

In most of his writings, from the early ones in 1914 to the last and most important one, ‘Savitri’, the only one he kept on revising in 1950 until he left his body, Sri Aurobindo announced again and again that renewed Possibility, hitting that huge nail on the head and slowly driving it down our limited human imagination, so that little by little our imagination may widen, until some day it will be able to consciously include and accept such an awesome Promise among the various other Possibilities it also contains about our Future as a species.

One day indeed it will be as natural and normal to have among all the terrestrial multi-cellular beings some more evolved ones who are immortal, just as today and since quite a while already in terrestrial evolution it has become natural and normal to have us ordinary human beings, a pretty amazing lot already: we are far from perfect, no doubt, but we are capable of mental activities unheard from animal species, and in extreme, extraordinary cases, capable of mental feats and prowess that astonish even the other human beings – which indicates clearly that we haven’t reached yet our culmination, our full potential as a species.

But how, how such a tremendous change as physical immortality will possibly happen, in a way accessible to any interested member of our species , is the next really important question, and Sri Aurobindo answered that too, as I will explain down below.

For this is the crux of the matter: it has to become gradually a normal, accepted thing.

Not only John Oldman in this film, but also of course Connor Mc Leod/Russell Nash in ‘Highlander’ and (except for the Elves) all the other examples of eternal youthfulness in films I have mentioned in my previous post, cannot stay for very long anywhere: otherwise the ordinary humans around them will start noticing that they are NOT aging, and will suspect some sort of foul play on their part – when they don’t start on the contrary worshiping these obviously miraculous oddities as gods, which by now is happening only in the most primitive cultures, the modern ones having since long dropped adoration altogether and adopted the much more suspicious and aggressive behavior we see exemplified in this film against John, even from friendly colleagues, as soon as they discover he is ‘different’ in a way not yet heard of or accepted by their culture, and so, deeply disturbing for them.

Well, additionally to being ‘different’ too, there were serious aggravating circumstances for the mysterious ‘immortals’ in “Highlander’: they were all under the necessity of beheading each other before another one would do it to them, so in 1985 NYC this didn’t go too well with the police, faced with a bewildering series of decapitated corpses, sometimes accompanied by ancient katanas to make those murders even more puzzling. Whoever was responsible for this was by definition an evil person, the usual maniac turned into serial killer. But in reality Russell Nash remained what he was as Connor Mc Leod too: an actually very gentle and compassionate being who would have preferred not to be under such a terrible obligation as the one he was under, if he wanted to save the Earth from a definitely more hellish potential tyrant.

In a similar way, the idealistic and ‘vegetarian’ vampires that the Cullens are in ‘Twilight’ prefer to live peacefully among the normal humans they too used to be before being turned into vampires against their wish; but if they were investigated and discovered for what they still are physically, in spite of their good intentions and actual innocence they would be exterminated; so they too, every now and then, move away to another area, just like John Oldman or Russell Nash also do, when people start noticing they aren’t aging, and so, aren’t ‘normal’.

All this aggressiveness from the ordinary human beings around would gradually change (at least when there would be no aggravating circumstances…) if there were a known, identified process recognized by all as the normal next step in our human evolution, through which any of us could progressively become immortal, if he or she were willing to put in the considerable personal inner effort required.

Immortality until now has been seen as obtainable only through a pact with the Devil, witchcraft, vampirism or other highly abnormal and unacceptable means. To start seeing it simply as one more far fetched human goal, attainable through a logical and understandable inner process, would definitely make it more acceptable as a reasonable and legitimate endeavor for anyone interested, envy and hatred for such an accomplishment becoming thus much less likely.

After all, one way we humans are already quite different from the animals around us, is that we question and often resent what is usually seen as the inevitable human condition: not only our mortality, but several other such things we deem impossible to realize here on Earth.

It is actually what we are here for, Sri Aurobindo points out about all those so-called impossibilities:

What I cannot do now is the sign of what I shall do hereafter. The sense of impossibility is the beginning of all possibilities. Because this temporal universe was a paradox and an impossibility, therefore the Eternal created it out of His being.

Impossibility is only a sum of greater unrealised possibles. It veils an advanced stage and a yet unaccomplished journey.

Thought is not essential to existence nor its cause, but it is an instrument for becoming; I become what I see in myself. All that thought suggests to me, I can do; all that thought reveals in me, I can become. This should be man’s unshakable faith in himself, because God dwells in him.

Not to go on for ever repeating what man has already done is our work, but to arrive at new realisations and undreamed-of masteries. Time and soul and world are given us for our field, vision and hope and creative imagination stand for our prompters, will and thought and labour are our all-effective instruments.

What is there new that we have yet to accomplish ? Love, for as yet we have only accomplished hatred and self-pleasing; Knowledge, for as yet we have only accomplished error and perception and conceiving; Bliss, for as yet we have only accomplished pleasure and pain and indifference; Power, for as yet we have only accomplished weakness and effort and a defeated victory; Life, for as yet we have only accomplished birth and growth and dying; Unity, for as yet we have only accomplished war and association.

In a word, godhead; to remake ourselves in the divine image.

The interesting thing is that in the new evolutive era the Earth is now entering, the Supramental Consciousness-Force activated since 1956 right inside terrestrial matter itself, is precisely the higher Divine Power that was needed to start accomplishing all of the above goals listed out by Sri Aurobindo; particularly significant, only that Power could possibly awaken again fully the Divine Consciousness secretly dormant in every particle/wave constituting Matter, and so awaken first of all the same now obscure Consciousness at work in all the cells constituting our human bodies.

Just like for each of the successive previous stages in terrestrial evolution, this higher energy now activated within Matter frees us from some of the limitations the just previous evolutive stage was keeping us into.

By learning how to use our consciousness directly instead of only as the Mental Power we have been used to, our knowledge of how really our body functions and remains healthy, will increase tremendously. It is presently limited by what Science will accept to consider as valid influences on DNA and our genes. The present almost entirely materialistic approach will not reveal to us all we can accomplish, nor how.

John Oldman’s extraordinary physical longevity isn’t explained in any real way in the film. The colleague biologist, Harry, answers everybody’s question with some scientific hypotheses as good as any, based upon what we think we know produces aging in our bodies, that is, a gradual self-poisoning of our entire system by the never quite complete elimination of the various wastes, that then accumulate, clogging more and more everything and bringing it slowly but surely to a grinding halt that is what we call death ‘of old age’. However true that may be (a later post on Edgar Cayce about this will confirm it), the mechanical, external ways to counteract this problem cannot, by themselves only, bring on the perfect functioning needed (Edgar Cayce confirms that too…), something else is absolutely essential, besides the healthy living.

Any signs we see of John’s healthy living?… One: the strong bow (and arrows) Sandy discovers and brings out, vainly trying to pull its string; he says he uses it to hunt deer, which is live game and a relatively unpolluted one as it feeds on wild greenery. Later on, we see also that John is quite fit indeed: while he is briefly outside with Sandy, Harry, a rather burly man himself. ambushes him from behind the door and as John steps in again, attacks him with all the skill of his second dan black belt in something… only to find himself two seconds later flat on his back with a very robust and agile John on top of him, still keeping his usual cool and soft manner, but having clearly demonstrated the efficiency of his own fighting skills, even when taken totally by surprise like that.

The film gets embroiled then into religious assertions by making John say he is the person who has become known as Jesus, his so-called resurrection being explained away by the special skills he had learned in Tibet and India, that enabled him to block the pain, render his vital signs undetectable, and bring his body back to normal afterwards.

If an outright miracle was in this way denied, still these acquired capabilities he revealed distanced him also very much from the colleagues listening to him: such methods certainly aren’t available for the ordinary person.

What would have Sri Aurobindo contributed to the discussion, if he had been there? I will express it here in my own words. Sri Aurobindo may have said this to John Oldman and his friends:

The firends, and John Oldman (picture from 'Spoilerific Review: The Man from Earth', with my thanks)

The friends, and John Oldman (picture from ‘Spoilerific Review: The Man from Earth’, with my thanks)

“These methods were indeed the only thing possible for a long time: given the almost total obscurity and inertia in the body-consciousness, such feats could be accomplished only by exceptional persons, in whom the Inner Being was developed and strong enough to do for the body whatever had to be done for such a great result to be obtained.

But since 1956, because of the new step in terrestrial evolution that got started, it is the consciousness in the very cells constituting the body, that awakens and sets itself to accomplish these high goals: as the cells become aware again of the Divine Presence in themselves and everywhere, their own awakened innate aspiration makes them participate willingly in the evolutive thrust of the whole being, so as to reach the bodily Perfection they too want to manifest.

The crucial advantage is that this new way of functioning, once learned by cells in one human body, can be passed on to cells in another human body, as the new vibratory frequency is contagious; and after some time it can become a new, permanent acquisition available for all the members of the species, for this is one of the main ways Evolution works.

So nowadays the methods can change, and they must include a conscious collaboration between the Inner Being of the individual, and his or her body-cells. Why don’t you try that, dear John Oldman? And your girl-friend Sandy who is going with you towards the next place you will live in, can then join you in this endeavour as well, if she is interested! And who knows, she may become able to keep up with you…”

Ode to Blogging: Annual Report of the Laboratory of Evolution, 2011-2012

The Laboratory of Evolution in Auroville is part of a vaster internal organisation that regroups the many educational and cultural activities that are going on here, and raises funds especially for them. Every year each activity so funded has to write then a ‘Progress Report’ about what it has accomplished during the previous year. Here is down below what I have felt inspired to write yesterday night concerning my own part of the work for the ‘LOE’:
As founder and head of the LOE since 1984, I am particularly concerned with the scientific aspect of the Research work that was planned from the start to be done in the Centre, called for this very reason a ‘Laboratory’. Lack of the required appropriate space, equipment and experts  prevented us until now from doing that aspect of our work in the way I had envisaged at first. But some ‘laboratories’ at least were permanently available to us during all those years, and that was our own inner beings and physical bodies…!
In Auroville, to be a Researcher in Conscious Evolution means that you will have to be at the same time the voluntary guinea-pig and the researcher watching, recording and analyzing the experiment while it is going on at every single moment of your daily life, conducted in mostly unexpected ways by the new Evolutive Force now at work upon Earth.
In the light of the explanations and advice given by those two first Pioneers of Conscious Evolution, Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, I have been practicing their “Integral Yoga” to the best of my ability since 1971 when I first came across their writings. I deliberately came to Auroville the following year in order to experience also the additional challenge of Collective Evolution towards what has been until now only an elusive goal for Humankind: Human Unity.
The forty years spent in Auroville with that inner attitude of a Researcher-cum-Guinea-Pig have been eventful indeed, but then also quite fruitful in terms of the results of the Research done throughout it all.
The problem was, how to get the accumulated documents (mostly personal journals and diaries, but also many articles from various sources) to reach in the right way the people who might be interested in them for their own adventure of Conscious Evolution as well, wherever they might live on the planet?
A website was tried for several years, but proved to be too expensive and technically demanding. Only a year ago did I finally find the right ‘planetary communication’ means, and that was: a ‘blog’.
More and more individuals everywhere are nowadays starting to ‘blog’, that is, to express themselves as unique individuals wanting simply to share whatever they have to say with other unique individuals elsewhere who also have something to share. Several big companies like Google or WordPress provide an ever-increasing range of attractive, very diverse templates that can be chosen and used for free by any would-be new blogger as the framework into which to post her or his texts and/or photos, and gradually build-up, at their own slow or quick pace, a whole ‘blog’ that other bloggers may chose to visit, and re-visit if they become interested. It is even possible, through a mere click on the appropriate button, to ‘follow’ someone’s blog: one will henceforth be informed automatically by email whenever that blogger puts up a new post on her/his blog.
After this first year of ‘blogging’, the results are quite encouraging for the complete neophyte I was: there are by now 150 ‘followers’ of my blog, although it is far from being an entertaining one, named as it is ‘Lab of Evolution’ – for it is naturally by me as a specific Researcher but in the context of our Research Center in Auroville that the documents and articles are being gradually published in ‘posts’ form. The newest posts are the ones you find first when you click on the blog’s address to open it, but all the older posts remain always accessible as well. Besides the regular visitors come also every day a number of new ones, and they too may come again or not, leave a comment or not, and each time you can edit it out, or answer it, starting what might become a whole conversation…
Together with those texts by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother that are central to the Integral Yoga, I include on my blog texts from several other persons who, I found out, were contemporaries of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and who on their own also received intuitively and then spread in their own way some notion of the new evolutive step about to start taking place on Earth: Edgar Cayce in the USA, J.R.R . Tolkien in England, Pierre Teilhard de Chardin in France
Pierre Teilhard de Chardin, a philosopher who ...

and some others later on,  all contributed something to the gradual understanding by more and more human beings that a new evolutive era is beginning. The most complete communication of this fact and the main work for its advent have been accomplished by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, but all those others too in various parts of the globe have found some inspiring way of telling that fact to the world, however incomplete may have been their own understanding of it and their personal capacity to realize it in their own life.
So the contents of my blog are appealing probably by their diversity: diversity of the sources used as well as of the aspects of the inner or outer work needing to be done, that are presented. Places in the world other than Auroville are in the same way presented in that blog because there too some important work for the conscious evolution of Humankind is happening. Special individuals exemplifying particularly well something specific that is characteristic of the ways this new evolutive step is taking place, are also presented. The ‘Lab of Evolution’, one realizes, is not limited to our Centre in Auroville, nor even to Auroville as a whole, but it is revealed as existing already a bit everywhere, and potentially in everybody. In that way no one feels excluded from the fantastic new Possible that is being introduced throughout the blog. In all this what concerns me finds its place, being understood that I myself represent only one sample of what is happening in Auroville. My own case might be especially relevant because I do my inner work in deliberate connection with whatever else is happening worldwide, that is also actually Conscious Evolution.
This blog is of course, besides its own contents, an ongoing experiment exploring the incredibly important role on a planetary scale of this ‘blogging’ trend increasing every day more among the most disparate persons, whether men or women, old or young, rich or poor, straight or gay, of all skin colors, from the vast populations of our biggest countries to the lone individuals from the remotest corners of our planet. People have visited my blog from the most unexpected spots on Earth. It feels just wonderful. What a great way these blogs are to contact each other, to discover each other’s rich uniqueness, and through this mutual appreciation to find a sense of universality in that sheer number of bloggers that just grows exponentially! As a Researcher, I would advance the joyful hypothesis that the Evolutive Force itself has inspired some people here and there a few years ago to start communicating freely in that so rewarding  ‘one-to-one’ new way, different from Facebook and such, and now it’s an explosion of friendships sparkling irresistibly like fireworks all over the planet…
This extraordinary new phenomenon definitely deserves ongoing study and direct participation from a Research Center like the Laboratory of Evolution. Besides the usual courses (about Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, the Spiritual Dimension of Auroville and other such topics) now and then asked for by individuals or small groups, this daily ‘blogging’ has been my main activity during this last year, so significant and effective that it is likely to remain an important part of my Research life in the future too.
